let the chaos begin!

Holy crapoly! Moving day is upon us! Tomorrow the movers come and pack up our stuff and we are out of here! Am excited and scared all at the same time! The move will be fine but am still stressed. There are odds and ends that still need to be taken care of and I am on midnights! YIKES!

Social Landslide

It never rains but it pours on my social calendar! I find myself staring down the end of September with every weekend booked up to the week we move. This weekend is a surprise birthday party for Aaron's friend Jamie. As it turns out, it's no longer a surprise. No doubt Jay was threatening to cancel for some reason or another (I think he is a little bit of a hermit). Tonight's plan is poker. Awesome. If I could play poker then I would maybe be more excited. As it stands I will be crocheting and cheering on my sweetie as he attempts to take all his friends money!

Next weekend is my sister's bridal shower/staggette. It's going to be interesting. We have had to change the date and time once as well as completely revamp our plan. There is one girl in the bridal party that has not even responded so we have no clue if she is coming. (Lame) The rest of us are pretty pissed about this. Tanya is having one party with two purposes and she can't even respond to copious emails or facebook messages! What is wrong with people these days? There was a time when being in a bridal party was an honor and a lot of work but a lot of fun. People just don't seem to give a crap anymore about the responsibilities that go with that honor! The plans for the stag/golf day isn't going well either. The grooms own brother hasn't even bothered to respond. All I can do is shake my head, and maybe kick some ass in a few weeks!

The following weekend has two options. First is my friend Sadie's boyfriend's Dirty 30 surprise party, or Aaron's sister's 2nd annual Keg party. I would prefer to actually go to the Dirty 30 as it is closer and it would be nice to do something with my friends for the weekend. However after speaking to Aaron this morning that will not be the case. His sister is very excited about us coming to her party. So we will be off to Bomanville where I will get to party with a bunch of people I don't know who are all a lot younger than me. Fun.

Then finally my sister's wedding weekend! That is going to be so much fun! Went for a dress fitting the other day and my top is a complete disaster! It needs to be taken in on both sides at the bust and then taken in at the back as well as having a 'falsie' added to one side. (nothing bad just lopsided!) Apparently my top droops in the front because I have big cans and a very tiny back. Go back on Thursday to get refitted. I hope it isn't going to be a major hassle. I have to say a speech that night. I hate public speaking. Oh well all I can hope for really is to not trip on my way up!

The weekend after Tanya's wedding is my Mom's birthday, so we will be doing something with her. Not sure what yet but something. We also take possession of the apartment that weekend. I will be going on to midnights that week as well. Every night I will be loading up my car, going to work for 8 hours, then straight to the apartment to unload my car. Being that we have only one car this means that it is all me. Our goal is to have the movers move nothing but the furniture. I get the very distinct feeling that I will be moving everything else. We have two storage units as well that I have to find time to sort through. Will someone please send me a miracle?!?!

Finally the last weekend we move. We move on a Friday which is good. The movers might be cheaper, and at least if all they are moving is the furniture then at least it won't take long. I just want it to be over with. All of it. I hate having to do a whole string of weekends where I am bound into so many social obligations. Really I just feel like I am being pulled in so many directions and have no time to myself. All I want to do is have a weekend where I can knock off at least one storage unit and a trip to the dump. That's it. That's all. That's not going to happen.

Update on our Soaps!

So we got picked up! It's a small store in downtown Milton that resells books. Our stuff is going in on consignment which is good! This way it doesn't cost her anything to put our stuff in our store and if we need something we can take it back no charge! How did this happen? Well, one of us had a friend go into the store after she had bought some of our lotion and the owner loved the smell of it! We are so excited! I would like for us to expand our line by four scents. We have four that we use regularly, which is fine but I would like for our customers to have more of a choice. We are also branching into container candles this year which will be fun! This way we will be able to have lotions, shower gels, soap bars, salts and candles all in the same flavor! Am looking at buying some bath bomb molds from Brambleberry. They have a whole youtube series on soap stuff and I think I know where we went wrong the last time.

After the craft sale in November we are going to start cold pressed soap. As much as I love the versatility of melt and pour bases, we would really like to start making our stuff from scratch. That way we can control exactly what goes in for our customers! Wish us luck!

Random Update

Well, I haven't blogged in a while so I thought to myself 'Self, you are doing nothin but watching horrible tv at 1:30am, do something productive' So here I am.

Work was fun today. Spent most of my time taking parts from large bins and putting them into small plastic totes. Good times. Drove home in the pitch black down the country road I always take, lit only by the moon. Love it. It will probably be the only thing I miss when I move! That's right...MOVE!!!

My sweetie and I live in a condo currently. It's been a small bone of contention for us both. He loves his condo, it's the first home he has ever known. I moved in here thinking that it would be temporary. The condo is just too dark for me. It's akin to living in a cave. I swear! We need to have the lights on in the condo at noon just to see to read! Ridiculous! We live on the ground floor and have a lovely walkout to a well kept green space with trees and bunnies and squirrels. We worked really hard to get the place looking the way we wanted it to. We put in the yummiest chocolate brown counter in the kitchen, I refinished the cabinets myself! We tiled the front hall and the kitchen put in new carpet and painted the whole place a lighter colour than he had originally painted it! All the blood sweat and tears paid off! We put the cave up for sale on a whim and it sold in three days! Twelves hours after our first showing even! We got more than what we asked for and the closing date we wanted. We have first months rent paid on our new apartment (which has plenty of windows!) and things are just falling into place and we couldn't be more pleased! We move into our new pad on the 22nd of October which is wicked...it's just (by just I mean 6 days) before the one year mark for our wedding! It will be tight but we are going to be able to save enough for our special day! Hurray!

Our special day! Oh I can't wait! I waited 4 years for him to propose...and then I got tired of waiting! I'm not getting any younger and I was adamant that I will be married before I am 40! Silly I know but I had this whole plan figured out at 16 that by 26 I'd be married and living in a house with a kid and a dog and a wonderful man and a great job. Now I am almost 37 and I feel like I never accomplished that dream! Now don't get me wrong here, I am not settling, nor am I just getting married to be married. This man is the love of my life! He is amazing! Clever, funny, charming, beautiful, adventurous...the list goes on. He is my everything! Everything I have ever wanted in a man he is! But I was tired of waiting, so I took matters into my own hands and proposed to him instead! Really, as much as I had originally fought that idea it makes perfect sense. I am after all, not very traditional!

So our date is set. October 28th 2011. We have brown and orange as our colours and have decided that our guests will all receive caramel-ed apples! We have our wedding party picked out as well as our MC. Now comes the rest of the details! Oh I am dreading that part! We are both procrastinators!

Have been biding my time here in the cave. You know, taking time to appreciate the little things. Things like the dishwasher, and the on-suit laundry! As much as I will miss those things, my sweetie will be doing the laundry when we move (he washes and dries and I fold and put away) and I never did really mind doing the dishes. Have been crafting a ton to get ready for our big November craft show. Have 2 star baby blankets finished (one yellow, white, blue, and the other the same only with a green) The pink one is about 3/4 the way done. Am also trying out a pattern for a cowl for myself, making a skirt for my friend, trying to learn to knit and start planning presents for the family at Christmas. Still have three matching jackets to make for the blankets and make another scarf. ANARCHY!!!

My sister and I took my mom out shopping for a dress for my sister's (Tanya) wedding this October. What a nightmare! Mom was all like "I want something with colour". I bet my sister $10 that she would get black...and I am now $10 richer for it! There were two dresses that I really wanted my mom to try on. One she refused to which I don't understand. It was a lovely herringbone pattern (small) that would have looked awesome on her but she flat out refused to try it on. The other dress was a hot pink one which she did try on! (Small Miracle here, she tried on a total of 4 dresses that day and we were at the mall all afternoon!) She looked so awesome in it! She came out of the change room and we were all like 'holy crap mom you look awesome!' and then we noticed it. It was the way she was standing in it! She looked so uncomfortable! The dress fit her just fine, it wasn't that. She had looked at the price tag and look petrified! My sister and I laughed out asses off! Now my sister and I had agreed to foot the bill for Mom's dress as we both make double what she makes and we wanted her to look and feel fabulous! The dress was $300 which isn't all that unreasonable at all. It was beautiful with amazing beading! I myself own a dress that cost me the same and don't regret it at all! I think every woman should own at least one dress that just makes you feel like you are walking the red carpet!

Well, that's about it for me. Gonna see if I can knock off an unfinished project while watching a totally horrible movie before I go to bed!
crafting like a fiend!!!crafting like a fiend!!!

Holy Crapoly!

Let me tell ya. I had started to write, and it was going really well. I was typing fast and furious with very few spelling mistakes. I was super excited to post it when it was done. Then suddenly I am staring down at a blank white text box! I guess there has to be an downside to my completely surreal day! Guess I will maybe try again tomorrow

Added a Poll!

I have decided to add a poll to my blog. My honey and I are having a hard time picking our accent colour for our wedding so I added a poll! You can pick more than one answer if you like. Send your friends!

Finally!

Finally a break! Well okay sort of. We have our first sale of the year out of the way. It started out bumpy, we were not actually on the street but in a parking lot behind a restaurant in the kids zone. Wouldn't have been so bad except we had a fire truck on one side of us blocking us from view of the street. Super annoying. So we spent from noon until about 3 pm there when someone came around and asked us if we wanted to move to the street. Didn't go bad after that! We managed to move all of our product, table, wash stand, take down our canopy/tent thingy and get it all set back up in 30 minutes. Thankfully we had an extra set of hands when a co-worker stopped by mid-move! After all was said and done, we packed up and went for a beer at one of the patios that was set up on the street. Left just as it was starting to rain. Not a bad day really. We purchased our tent thingy and got a custom made sign done, complete with shiny grommets! Looks super awesome, and we still managed to make our money back!

Currently we are in the midst of a couple of things. We are trying to work out what kind of things we are going to sell at the November craft sale. We are thinking of expanding our baby stuff section of crocheted things! This year we are going to have one traditional granny square baby blanket plus one or two (hopefully more as they work really fast) fancy star blankets with little matching sweater jackets to match! Also going to be doing some fun hats, scarves and mitts as well. Thank goodness there is more than one of us that knows how to crochet! On top of all of that we are doing our soaps and lotions and have decided to switch to a melt and pour for some. After this sale we will be moving on to cold pressed soaps...very exciting! We are planning to ask Lauren's dad if he can build us 3 more 3'lb soap molds. We may also be adding a bubble bath and a body butter. We are so excited!

Also on our list of things to do is another diaper cake for someone at work. I am working on an baby blanket and accomplished a lot tonight. I am officially finished my 80 squares and am half way through crocheting it together one way. I used this super awesome green instead of the standard minty green baby yarn...Bernat Softee Baby in Soft Fern. Love love love this colour...want to make scarves out of it! Now they just need a baby yarn in a brown or two and I will be happy!

Planning our vacation for July. Very much looking forward to it! We are heading up to Aaron's 5 star get-away for 10 magickal days. It's going to be awesome! Hoping the lake will be high enough for us to get the boat out of the boat house to get some fishing in. Also hoping the beavers have not blocked off the river as we want to go kayaking down river again. Who knows maybe a beaver damn would work in our favor? Just have to find a way over it! Can't wait! Been practicing my BBQ'ing skills lately and everything! I make a killer steak apparently!

We have come to the conclusion that we must put our wedding back a couple of months. We are going to join the party in October on the 29th, 2011. Our window still is not fixed and the condo is still not up for sale yet. We are starting a relentless phone campaign on Monday morning. On a brighter note, I think with the change of season we are going to change the colours for our wedding. We are thinking brown. Like a silky chocolaty brown, with either a apple green accent or an orange accent. We had a good time pitching ideas around today as well. He was very open to the idea of his best man guitaring me down the aisle to a tune he wrote. (Fraser is very musically talented as well as artistically) We also thought it might be super cute to have our center pieces done with hollowed out gourds done up like jack-o-lanterns with tea lights inside. I am pretty sure that I will be wearing a gold dress down the aisle. Now wait, don't freak, I am not talking shiny gold here. Probably a little darker than ivory. Have tried on one in that colour and it goes fantastic with my skin...can you tell I am super excited?!

Staying up for midnight shift sucks. Aaron is in bed sleeping and I am watching Mythbusters. Although I did make cupcakes tonight at like 1:45 am. On Thursday I had asked my boss for a half day on Friday. He booked me for a whole day and I came in. I had a meeting to go to about this new harassment law, and then my boss said that I could have the whole day if I made cupcakes...chocolate with vanilla icing. Somehow his mistake gets him cupcakes. I am not sure how that worked out but he's getting them! Honestly he has been hinting at it every chance he gets...even supervisors from next door have been hinting as well. Crazy.

Well I am off to bed, will post some pictures of what I have been up to soon!

still alive

Yes I am still alive and kickin'! Haven't been blogging for a while, as crafting season is upon us and we are busy building stuff! Have a sale coming up in June. Last weekend was spent in Grand Bend with my dad and Julie. Had a great time relaxing on the deck and bbq'ing! The most exciting thing going on? This Friday the condo company is sending out a company to look at our leaking bedroom window! I may have mentioned this window before...it's the one that has been leaking for a year and is what is preventing us from putting the condo up for sale!

Will be back again soon!

So I am stuck at home with a bum ankle for the next week or so. I don't know how I did it but I managed to get tendinitis in my ankle. What a great time for an update!....well I guess maybe it's not so great of a time...I have been stuck to my couch! Although tomorrow I get to go to physio...that will be the highlight of my day!

Yesterday I managed to escape the condo with the help of my very intrepid fiance! We had gotten a gift card for HomeSense at Christmas and he wanted to go and check out some kitchen stuff. Off we go to the mall! My sweetheart took pity on my and my gimpy foot and dropped me off at the front doors while he searched for parking! While we didn't find what we were looking for in the kitchen section we did find something in the bedding section! A lovely set of 600thread count Egyptian cotton bed sheets and a lovely new quilt...which the cats seem to be enjoying!

Well, I was going to put in a picture but it seems to be not showing up :(

Oh also, pulled up the blinds in the bedroom today to let in some light and low and behold what do I see? Little leaves on the bush right outside the window!

Amazing amateur space photography

Wow. And when I say Wow, what I really mean is...W.O.W. Look at this picture. How much do you think it cost to take it? Launching the satellite, customising the carefully-controlled precision camera, getting the images back down to earth, and so on? $750, for the whole job. It was taken by a private citizen in the UK, and NASA is so impressed that it contacted him to find out how he did it.

Balloon-earth-photo It turns out that he did it using a consumer digital Canon camera, a high-altitude helium balloon, and a box wrapped up with duct tape - all launched from his back yard. Robert Harrison put the camera in the box, strapped the box to the balloon, and set it free. It rose to a height of 22 miles, reaching a point where it could take photos of the earth from so high up that you could see the curvature of its surface.

The camera, wrapped in loft insulation from a DIY store, is attached to a small computer that makes it take photos every five minutes, beamed to earth using a radio transmitter. When the balloon reaches the 22 mile point, it pops, because the air pressure outside drops to a point low enough that it cannot keep the helium inside.

Harrison then recaptures the camera, which falls gently to earth thanks to a parachute built into the box. The camera is equipped with a GPS that lets him pick it up from wherever it lands. Generally, it falls no less than 50 miles from where it left off.

Sadly, the original story published in the Daily Mail only gives us two of his stunning photos. I'd love to see a short video stringing together all of the shots that the camera took, in sequence. It brings to mind a project I saw in Make magazine, in which someone put a digital video camera in a home-made rocket. But 22 miles? Amazing. Can Canada beat Britain in amateur space photography? The challenge is out there, people. I'm off on a quick trip to Home Depot and Futureshop. See you later!

Crocheting like a person possessed!

Okay, they say the first step is admitting it so here I go. Hello world, my name is Nikky and I have a crochet problem!

Been super busy these last few weeks. Shopped for a new couch and love seat, in a lovely brown leather. Very happy with our comfy purchase. Also been crocheting like a mad person! Managed to crank off a baby blanket in about 2 1/2 days. Starting another one, and making a blanket for Aaron's mom's birthday. If I don't have carpel tunnel by the end of the month it will be a small miracle or a freak of nature...could go either way with me!

Have also been obsessively watching the winter olympics. I also have a winter sports addiction. Now don't misunderstand me here, I am obsessed with watching them...not participating in them! I cheered on so many countries it was crazy! I was all over cheering on Norway and their crazy argyll pants. Also cheered on Americans and props here for your very cool snow boarding pants....at first I thought you guys were just nuts wearing jeans down the hills! In my vast experience with snow I have learned that jeans just don't keep you dry and warm! I even cheered on Britian and was totally embarrassed for that poor girl whose pants split wide open on the track! Trust me I wanted to crochet her something a little more warm and sturdy but my friends all insisted that I would not get it done it time! :) Really I wonder why every time I watch the Olympics we as humans can't all get along like we do for those two magical weeks? I think the world would be so much better if we could...but then again I also think the world would be a better place if we were all allowed nap time every day!

Condo is almost ready for sale. Carpets are clean, things are de-cluttered and just some touch ups and we are ready to go!

Can't wait until all of this craziness is done with so I can get back to blogging on a more regular basis!

Missing you all tons

Nikky

Texas Sports Writer Compares Canadian Patriotisim to Nazis

For real? Really this guy is for real? I will admit that in my lifetime it was probably the most red and white I have seen but to compare the Vancouver Olympics to those of the Berlin 1936 Olympics is insane! I think this guy needs to get a clue. Even though he is just a sports writer I am more disappointed in the international news media then usual. It is a sad state of affairs when someone is allowed to compare any country to Nazi Germany. I think he should be removed from his position.

Feel free to chime in. Also, not meant as a jab at any of my lovely American followers...I know you guys are all smarter than Gil LeBreton. Still though, I am cheesed about it!

Positive thoughts and prayers needed

As most of you are aware, I work in the auto parts manufacturing industry. Last week our work family experienced a horrific incident. One of our tool makers, while working on a lathe had his hand ripped off. He was flown to Hamilton Hospital and had his arm amputated from the elbow down. Mike is touch and go right now, so please, keep Mike and his 21 year old daughter in your thoughts and prayers and please, if you work with heavy machinery or know of anyone who does, remind them to respect them. The moment you loose respect for your equipment is the moment your life can change forever.
